This was supposed to be an easy warm up for my attempt at Mt Everest next year.

I was going in confident, I had just summited two much more technical 10,000 ft peaks in the last 2 weeks and my fitness was the best it had ever been! Bring it on I thought to myself! Continue reading

Mt. Baker Summit (10,781 ft.) – Expedition Training

Posted By: Mark Therriault

I had heard doing Mt Baker in two days was a great climb, so I thought why not do it in one day? I answered my own question a few days later…

We left Vancouver at 10 pm on Friday night and got to the parking lot of Mt Baker around midnight. I had tried to sleep after work but the excitement was killing me and I just wanted to get started. By 1 am we were on the trail and on our way to the tip of the Coleman glacier…the guide book said it would take about 3 hrs to get there and we did it in just under 2 so we were feeling great when we got there so quickly…I thought to myself, we’ll be back to the car at 8 in the morning!! We geared up and started heading up the glacier. The weather was great but it was much colder than I expected. As my hands began to get numb I thought about my nice warm summit gloves I had left in my apartment, good call I thought to myself! Continue reading

Wedge Mountain Summit – Expedition Training

It was about seven weeks ago that I went to the Wedge for my first apline experience to train for Everest. My trip was filled with fear, as well as excitment. The day before we were about to attempt the summit, I had a sick feeling in my stomach, all of these thoughts of death, the fact that if I died on the Glacier on my first alpine climb, how everyone would laugh at the fact that I was going to attempt Everest. Trip was amazing. We started out on Saturday morning at 6 am, climbed up to camp Muir where we stayed overnight. In the morning we did some glacier and mountaineering training and then headed up to high camp to settle in for our summit bid. The weather was looking great for the evening and there were chances of thunder showers later in the night so we made a decision to go for the Summit at Sunset. Continue reading

Over the past 10 year I have always wanted to climb Wedge Mountain. There is something about its beautiful shape and landscape that could not escape my mind. My good friend Mark Therriault also has a big dream that he shared with me 6 months back. This dream, that he is making a reality, is to climb the tallest mountain in the world, Mount Everest. Over the next 9 months we will be documenting Mark’s journey to Everest. With no hesitation Mark replied to my invite to climb Wedge with a “YES”. Continue reading

Shattered – Tyler Stableford

This is the first artistic short that I have seen narrated with poetry. In classic poetry form this is not the most up lifting film, but it shines reality on what happens to elite athletes once they have hit thier peak. Tyler Stableford does an amazing job capturing the emotion and journey that Steve House it on. I was super impressed with the quality of sound and camera angles. Check out more of Tyler and Steve Here. Continue reading
